20170104 bangkok trip day 6

final day in bangkok was really easy.

as my flight was in the late afternoon, i decided to go just around the hotel area for a walk. i checked out the room at 10ish in the morning, and then slowly walked and wander around.

i booked a car via grab and it cost me about 400 baht. the driver came on time and of cos i reached the airport on time. after checked-in to the immigration, i did my gst claim and proceed to burger king to have the must try pork burger again.

20170103 bangkok trip day 5

i met up an ex-colleague from bangkok office today. it was really a relaxing day. she brought me to a place which i don’t think i will go.

we met up for lunch at the famous luxury shopping center along sukhumivt road- emquartier – just opposite the popular emporium shopping mall.

the emquartier opened in march 2015. it was very spacous with many designer brands and dozens of restaurants, office, event halls and a cool atrium garden with waterfall.

the design of emquartier has giant glass panels fronting the mall and its sweeping futuristic floors enclosing a cool outside concourse space. there’s also plenty of grass, plants and trees added to each level.

the mall is split up into three different zones, one of which is actually in a separate building connected by several walkways. the zones are “the glass quartier”, “the helix quartier”, and “the waterfall quartier”.

20170102 bangkok trip day 4

counting down to the end of the holiday, i always plan my itinerary to be more relaxed.

my itinerary for today is to visit the erawan musuem

erawan museum is located in smaut prakan. it is well know for the giant three-headed elephant statue standing on the top of the museum. the statue is 250 tons in weight, 29 metres high, 39 metres long, and cast in pure green-hued copper sitted on the domed roof.

the construction of the museum started in 1994 and completed in the early 2000s. the architecture of the erawan museum and the sections within the buidling were desinged to represt hindu mythology on the structure and characteristics of the universe; representing the three worlds.

the three-headed elephant statue is the first and the last thing you will see when you are reaching or leaving the museum.

20170101 bangkok trip day 3

today’s itinerary is simple – wat traimit and sampeng lane market. both are located within the premises of chinatown’s yaowarat road. after that, i took the river boat and visit wat arun, my favorite place to see while on the river.

from where i stayed, i took a bts train from chong nonsi bts station to sala daeng bts station, where i will need to walk to the mrt station to take the mrt to hua lampong mrt station. wat traimit is about 300 metres walking distance from the mrt station.

while on the sky bridge towards the mrt station, i stood there for awhile a look at the area, typically lumpini park. i used to stay in this area a couple of times, but never really stand on the bridge to look at the surrounding, especially the busy traffic. while standing there, i noticed that there is a name on the flyover! thai-japanese bridge!

20161231 bangkok trip day 2

after the “hectic” first day in bangkok, it is soon the second day, and it’s the last day of year 2016. i didn’t feel any different when i woke up.

as per planned, i went to the famous, popular, crowded weekend market – chatuchak weekend market. it is also known as world’s largest weekend market, and has reached a landmark status as a must visit attraction for tourists, as this is a place where you can literally shop “till you drop”.

chatuchak weekend market is popular among wholesalers and traders, who will do their stocks early in the morning from there. they usually go with luggage bags or trolleys.

20161230 bangkok trip day 1

this year end, i decided to spend time in bangkok (yes, again!). this will be my third trip to bangkok in year 2016, and first trip in year 2017, since i am spending the new year here, by myself.

my flight was in the afternoon, touching down at 4.30pm local time. as i always preferred, i reached changi airport earlier than expected. usual process, checked-in and walked around slowly, taking my own sweet time.

pokemon go is going to launch the 2nd generation soon, as such, there are new characters all around the airport. captured the few cute ones.
